COVID LESSON 9: CHOOSE GODLY MEDIA

“Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" Matthew 4:4

How do you spend your extra time these days?
If you’re not part of the front liners or of other agencies who bravely continue delivering services amidst COVID-19, I guess, you have few (if not more) extra time for yourself.

In my case, I find myself doing carpentry, steel works, and writing.
My wife? Cooking and baking. (so I also eat most of the time)
And my kids- they watch, play (so I watch and play too) and helping on household chores.

How about you, what makes you busy?

Whatever your answers are, chances are these things are already a hobby on your part or things that helps you to fight possible boredom due to quarantine and lockdown. (you can also try challenges here in Facebook if you want)

Why I’m asking you this?

Four simple reasons.
First – your hobbies (like habits) are driven by your repeated actions
Second – your repeated actions are affected by your words
Third – your words are influenced by your media
Last – therefore, choose your media!

With the extra time that you have, chances are you find yourself reading books/e-books (there’s a lot of it for free now), listening to music, browsing net (like facebook and twitter), watching TV, movies or vlogs and the like.

And you know it, these media have the capacity to influence your words (words you utter to others and words you tell to yourself AKA “thoughts”) especially when you consume it day and night 24/7. And so, with good media (good films, good songs, good books, good pictures, and anything that is good) you will fill your life with good words.

And this is very important!

Jesus said: “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"

If you will read it well, Jesus would like us to understand that, it is not only food that nourishes our body, it is also words – particularly godly words.

Such as…
You’re beautiful
You’re amazing!
I love you!
How does it feel after reading?

Now, try this.

You’re ugly!
You’re idiot!
I hate you!

I will no longer ask you what you felt.
Instead, I’ll just be asking you-
What words would you like to fill your life with?

With your extra time,
Choose godly words
Choose godly media.

Let us pray (silence)

Generous Father,
Thank you for today.
Thank you for nourishing our body and giving us a new life.
Help us to discipline ourselves in terms of what we read, see and hear.
Help us to use our extra time wisely.
Help us to spread inspiration and positivity. In Jesus name, Amen.

Guide question for reflection:

1. What do I do with my extra time nowadays? Can I say that I am using my time properly?
2. What words/message I get from the media that I am enjoying nowadays?
3. In general, what word/message I would like to spread with my posts in my social media accounts nowadays?
