Jesus the Psychologist

“No one puts new wine into old wine skins, for the wine would burst the skins and both wine and the skin would be lost. New wine, new skins!” Mk. 2:22

Although we used them interchangeably,
Attitude and behavior are two different things.
Attitude is an inner thought or feeling, while;
Behavior is usually an outward expression of it.
Unfortunately, the word 'usually' in the latter explains it why.

If only we find our thoughts and feelings 'always' consistent with our actions (and vise versa),
Then attitude may really be an appropriate synonym for behavior.

But we know and Jesus knows- there are times that they’re not.
Sometimes, we don't do what we know,
Other times we don't know what we are doing.

This is timely to note if we’re really serious in changing and developing ourselves.

New wine, new skins! A spiritual and psychological fact from Jesus.
There are times that we’re so happy finding new positive insights and feelings

But without using them to change our old ways, they will not do much.
New and positive thoughts should lead us to new and positive deeds.

So, Jesus is clear- the more we find our thoughts and actions coherent,

The more we become the person we really want to be.
If not, our thoughts will not move us and our actions will only prostrate us.
Indeed, they will be wasted and still we find ourselves unchanged.

Christmas is Just Starting

The time has come; the kingdom of God is at hand. Change your ways and believe the Good News.” Mk 1:15

Many days had passed since Christmas.
The jolly music we enjoyed last month has already faded.
Even the lights that glitter our highways were already out.
While our storage is once again full of stars and packed garland.

The time has come…
When many of us now are being tempted to work overtime,
When many of us now are beginning to feel alone,
When budgets are starting to be tight,
When sumptuous rations are turning to be out of sight.

Will you still give time for prayer?
Will you still give for friendship?
Will you still give gifts?
Will you still give food?

Christmas season may have been gone.
But I hope not the spirit. I wish not the generosity.
I pray not the peace. I long not the Christ.

The time has come.
Oh yes, when the Christmas season end; its true spirit begins.
